Summary: Low Pressure Carburizing (LPC) with High Pressure Gas Quenching (HPGQ) processes offer advantages over conventional atmospheric carburizing processes including faster processing time, improved metallurgical uniformity and decreased levels of distortion. Proper material selection, due to its effect on part performance, raw material cost and manufacturability, is very important. This paper will provide discussion on material selection and process parameter considerations necessary to obtain these improved process benefits.
