Rapid Gas Quenching Using High Pressure with Directional Cooling

C. Moller, Ipsen International, Inc., Cherry Valley, IL

View in WORD format

Summary: For rapid gas quenching with the ultimate quench uniformity, directional cooling presents an advantage through directional control of the quench gas flow. In this way, variations in cooling rates due to loading or section size can be reduced for consistency across the load or part. Directional control of cooling gas may even increase cooling rates by intensifying quench gas flow through certain loads. A proven single-chamber furnace design updated with directional quench gas paths and controls provides this facility.
