W. R. Jones, Solar Atmospheres Inc., Souderton, PA

View in WORD format

Summary: Based on extensive experience testing a laboratory vacuum carburizing furnace, a new production furnace has been designed to carburize insitu, and with a positive 10 atmospheres N2, coupled with high velocity gas, quench the work load. Types of carburizing gas, vacuum Torr level, gas mixture, instrumentation, method of injection to the hot zone, and of critical importance, engineering details for the gas quench system heat exchanger, gas turbine, gas flow patterns, and gas quench injector nozzles will be presented.
