Oxide Control for a Successful Brazing Process

S. L. Feldbauer, Abbott Furnace Company, St. Marys, PA

View in WORD format

Summary: Oxide reduction and prevention are key aspects to the quality of brazed components. Dew point and Oxygen content of the atmosphere are the determining factors of the reducing potential of the brazing atmosphere in the furnace. Only by understanding the role of each, can the furnace be set-up to operate and braze products with the best quality and lowest cost. The control of these and other atmosphere related variables that impact the control of the oxides during brazing will be discussed in relationship to the general brazing furnace design and the brazing process.
