Metallographic Technique for Revealing Prior austenite Grain Boundaries and Multiphase Microstructure in Steels

A. Salemi Golezani, Islamic Azad University-Karaj Branch, Tehran, Iran

TBD

Summary: An etching procedure with etching solution has been applied to reveal individual microstructural constituent and prior austenite grain boundaries in a multiphase steel and electro salag remelted (ESR) steel, respectively. To reveal the prior austenite grain boundaries, this technique is quick and practical in conventional methods since no metallographic preparation is required after heat treatment. Due to variation of chemical composition in color tint etching, ferrite, bainite and martensite are obser> Keywords: Prior Austenite, Ferrite-Bainite-Martensite, Color Tint Etching >
