New Cost-effective Equipment for Generating Hydrogen Atmospheres

F. Lomax, R. Todd, G. Carr, H2Gen Innovations, Inc., Alexandria, VA

Ongoing increases in delivered atmosphere gas prices have hurt all levels of the metal industry, from small shops sintering or brazing finished components in hydrogen atmospheres all the way to large cold mills in the steel industry, metal powder producers and ore refiners. These increased costs have driven many furnace operators to reduce atmosphere usage by reducing flowrates or purity.  These steps carry hidden costs associated with impaired product quality and increased cycle time.  H2Gen offers a line of fully-automated, high-efficiency hydrogen generating and atmosphere recycling equipment that offers substantial cost savings over delivered atmosphere gas.  Furthermore, H2Gen’s products are easier to operate than traditional ammonia dissociators and endo gas generators eliminating large inventories of toxic and/or hazardous gases on-site.  The technology behind H2Gen’s HGM hydrogen gas generators and complementary MARSTM atmosphere recycling equipment are reviewed, along with customer case studies.

Summary: Advances in technology have allowed H2Gen to commercialize a range of hydrogen generating and recycling equipment which offer cost and operability advantages over traditional atmosphere supply options. These systems are ideal for the heat treating industry, and successful case studies and the technology behind the equipment are reviewed.
