Database of Cooling Power of Quenchants and Heat Transfer Coefficient in Quenching

M. Narazaki, M. Kogawara, A. Shirayori, Utsunomiya University, Utsunomiya, Japan

The cooling curve tests with some metallic probes have been used as the most useful means of testing cooling power of liquid quenchants such as oils, water and polymer quenchants.  Silver probes have been used to estimate the cooling power and heat transfer coefficient for various quenchants. Heat transfer coefficients are estimated from cooling curve data of silver probes to built database of cooling power of quenchants. Lumped heat capacity method was employed for estimation of heat transfer coefficients.  A lot of liquid quenchants and several gas are used for this work.  We will show the representative data of this database in this report.
