The Realities of Induction Heat Treating

G. Welch, Ajax Tocco Magnethermic Corp., Warren, OH

Summary: This paper will discuss a variety of induction hardening and tempering design considerations and applications encountered which represent unique developments and solutions. Often seemingly typical print specifications become challenges during development or in production. The case studies described will also help provide considerations for both part design and heat treat specifications. Part prints, materials, heat treat specifications and understanding customer expectations are all key ingredients to a successful induction heat treating process.
