Heat Treating Equipment for Plutonium Alloys

J. J. Park, G. Romero, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, NM

A new glovebox has been installed for heat treating of plutonium alloys in the Plutonium Facility at Los Alamos National laboratory. Equipment attached to the glovebox include  two clam-shell furnaces, a desktop computer, a note book computer, temperature controllers, an inert gas purification system, Type-K thermocouples, and facility piping. The furnace is of resistant heating type of furnace. The desktop computer is used to control the process parameters and data collection. The note book computer is used to collect glovebox atmosphere during the process. This poster presentation will describe the equipment used for the heat treatment for plutonium alloys.

Summary: A new glovebox has been installed for heat treating of plutonium alloys in the Plutonium Facility at Los Alamos National laboratory. The results showed that all the equipment used for the heat treatment for plutonium alloys were working very well.
