Building And Maintaining Global HT Supply Chains

M. J. Schneider, The Timken Company, Canton, OH

Outsourcing has become an important part of the value equation for Timken by balancing internal and external heat treat capacity.  Global outsourcing results in unique challenges and opportunities to assure that brand promise is maintained.  A general approach toward developing, approving and monitoring suppliers is discussed along with the distinctions of different global regions.  Qualified suppliers are constantly assessed based on key factors which translate into the attention they must receive from our technical and supplier quality teams.

Summary: Creating a global HT supply base presents unique challenges and opportunities that can only be accomplished by working side by side with suppliers. The unique issues of NA, Europe and Asia will be discussed.
