Recent Inventions and Innovations In Induction Hardening Gears and Gear-Like Components

V. Rudnev, Inductoheat Inc., Madison Heights, MI

Presentation focuses on inventions and innovations recently developed in the area of induction hardening of gears and gear-like components. Variety of unique (patented or paten pending) technologies developed in the last 3-5 years will be discussed here, including but not limited to induction hardening of hypoid and spiral bevel gears (7”-11” dia.), single coil simultaneous dual frequency induction hardening of fine teeth gears, combined simultaneous dual frequency approach, “tooth-by-tooth” induction hardening of large gears. Examples of hardness patterns and microstructures of induction-hardened components utilizing unique technologies will be presented here as well.
