The Effect of Cryogenic Processing on the Heat Gain In Rifle Barrels

M. Pinkine, F. Diekman, Controlled Thermal Processing, Inc., Antioch, IL; R. Henson, Murray State College, Tishomingo, OK

Cryogenic processing has long been used to increase the accuracy of rifle barrels.  The authors have observed that rifle barrels that are cryogenically treated do not gain as much temperature after a round is fired as barrels that are not treated.  This paper explores this effect and its causes.
