Nitriding and Ferritic Nitro Carburizing In the New Multi Treater Furnace Using the Hydronit Sensor

A. Goldsteinas, Ipsen, Inc., Cherry Valley, IL

The MultiTreater® is the completely new design of a horizontal retort furnace and utilizes a singular concept decoupling the charge weight support from the furnace retort. In contrast to conventional, horizontal retort furnaces, this permits a much higher maximum charge weight of up to 10,000 lbs. with at the same time  much longer retort service life. The available charge space can be optimally used without worrying about exceeding the maximum load weight.

However, not only the charge table, but also nearly all modules of The MultiTreater® has been designed with the aim of an optimum performance.

The development of Ipsen’s own HydroNit sensor and Nitr-o-Prof software has proven to be valuable, improving both nitriding and nitrocarburizing process consistency and repeatability. Whether tempering, annealing, nitriding or nitrocarburizing, heat treatments in the new MultiTreater are carried out with high quality and improved uniformity at reduced costs.

This paper will present in details both furnace technology and Ipsen nitriding processes.
