Designing, Manufacturing and use of low cost, fuel efficient, ceramic wool lined,

square shaped and uniformly heated low and high temperature pit type

furnaces

The paper describes with calculations and practical guidelines for manufacturing and use of diesel fired

pit type furnaces. The paper also discusses various design aspects of modified shell design of the furnace

and the specifically developed ceramic wool lining techniques for minimum heat losses.

The paper describes specific burner positions for maximum efficiency. In this modified furnace, the

motor fan assembly is designed and mounted in specific manner to eliminate the water-cooling of the

fan assembly and that of the door. There is also an easy to operate and economical manual door lifting

arrangement for these furnaces.

Two such furnaces having working pot dimensions as

ø 750MM x 1550 MM and ø

1350 MM x 1950

MM are fully functional and are giving quality outputs in my own job-working unit “Heat Link” in Pune

India.
