SOME NEW PHENOMENA DISCOVERED DURING IMMERSION OF STEEL PARTS INTO LIQUID QUENCHANTS

- It has been established by experiment that during immersion of metallic probes into liquid the shock boiling exists which affect the value of the first critical heat flux density. As a result, the classical correlation qcr1 = 5qcr2 may differ significantly from the results discovered early.
- During shock boiling the first critical heat flux density increases that eliminates the process of film boiling.
- When film boiling is absent, so called self – regulated themal process takes place.
- During the self – regulated themal process surface temperature is maintained at the level of boiling point.
- For such condition of quenching the mathemetical model was formulated.
- Results of investigation were used for prediction of micro-structure and hardness at the core of steel parts of any configuration.
