Modeling the Carbonitriding of Steels

A software tool, CarboNitrideTool©, has been developed based on experimental results and our previous carburizing model methodologies. This model includes the concomitant absorption and diffusion of both carbon and nitrogen in the steels. The diffusional interactions of carbon and nitrogen are included. CarboNitrideTool© predicts the carbon and nitrogen concentration profiles in the steel as well as the hardness and as-quenched microstructure profiles. The experimental verification is also presented and discussed.
