Recent developments in self-recuperative and self-regenerative burner technology are likely to further improve their profitability. However, besides a burner’s efficiency, there are several other parameters such as necessary investment, the gas price and maintenance costs influencing its economics.

The work presented comprises a discounted cash flow model for the appraisal of investments in modern gas burner technology as well as sensitivity analyses revealing the most influencing factors on the profitability of self-recuperative and self-regenerative gas burners. An emphasis is on the analysis of innovative gas-burner technology such as the new self-recuperative burners with gap flow recuperator.
