Proper selection of heat resistant alloys can optimize heat treat component life, and over the life of the component can significantly reduce overall cost through the elimination lost production and down time to replace unusable components.

The first criterion for proper selection is the maximum metal temperature (not furnace temperature).  But that is only one criterion.  There are several more factors to consider.  This paper will discuss all the different criteria.  Finally, the factors and design considerations of various furnace components and supporting equipment will be examined specifically through consideration of all the discussed factors
