The method of surface hardening and increasing wear resistance of metal parts by means of precision plasma nitriding was developed (Pat.UA 84664, 25.10.13). Precision plasma nitriding Avinit is the process of diffusion saturation of surface layer by nitrogen in high density nitrogen plasma discharge. The source of high density plasma (n >10^10 – 10^11 sm^-3) is device of original construction. Probe measurements of plasma parameters show that the intensity of the ion flux approximately 300-1000 times higher in comparison with saturation in a glow discharge. Utilizing Precision plasma nitriding Avinit essential increasing (5–50 times) the rate of diffusion layer growth. The measurements have shown the possibility of nitriding surfaces with complex geometries (such as gearing made with high accuracy), maintaining the geometric dimensions after nitriding up to 1-2 mkm, which allows to get away from the finish polishing the details and get the nitriding operation precision "in size".
