Prof. Richard D Sisson , Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, MA
Seventy years ago Holloman and Jaffe published their paper* analyzing the effects of temperature and time on the tempering behavior of steel. This paper has been cited 274 times. In this presentation the careers of these men will be briefly reviewed.  In addition, the original paper will be discussed in terms of motivation, analysis methodology and results. The important insights that have been gleaned from this paper will be discussed. Finally a few future directions for research and development on tempering and phase transformations will be identified.
