The goal of this paper is to show that it becomes possible to use optimization to find out the best frequencies to have a regular hardness in a gear wheel. A 3D model of a part of the gear wheel will be studied in magneto-thermal analysis. Parameters will be defined for the frequencies and the duration of each phase of the frequencies. We will define points on which we want to have some specific temperatures at the end of the heating process. Then an optimizer will be used in order to create DOEs and to run genetic algorithms in order to find out the optimum combination of frequency and duration in order to meet the required temperatures. Then the optimum set of values will be used in order to check the validity of the optimum. Different strategies for the mesh will be tried and compared.
