Users of delivered thermal process gases have experienced several years of missed deliveries, product supply limitations, price escalation, and additional costs. Worst are the missed deliveries and product limitations – issues directly impacting production. Thermal processing requires appropriate atmosphere – atmosphere supply constraints are catastrophic.

Thermal process atmospheres provide functional benefits for thermal processors, enabling material properties to be adjusted and enhanced. While atmosphere thermal processing was considered a mature marketplace, spectacular growth in metal injection molding has created new opportunities for sintering atmospheres. The hydrogen and nitrogen sintering atmosphere gases required can be self-generated on-site.

Self-generation of hydrogen and nitrogen atmospheres can ensure supply, stabilize costs, and reduce carbon footprint. Increasing thermal processors are adopting on-site hydrogen and nitrogen generation to become self-sufficient for atmosphere components. Presentation reviews costs and benefits for both hydrogen and nitrogen.
