Development of Active Metal Nickel Based Brazing Filler Metals

T. A. Sandin, C. Moyer, Bodycote Fremont, Fremont, CA

Titanium was added to conventional nickel braze filler metals to create active alloys for brazing difficult to wet materials for service at high temperatures in extreme environments.  Components made of ceramics and Incoloy MA956, an oxide dispersion strengthened alloy with high aluminum content, were brazed successfully with these activated alloys.

Summary: Active metal nickle brazing of metal to ceramic and parent alloys containing Aluminium and Titanium. Braze joints that can withstand high temperature in service use.
