Superhard materials based on cubic boron nitride (SHM) possess dominant position in development of cutting processes for hardened steels. SHM are brazed into instrument body. Brazers have to hold SHM in the body until complete wear of the instrument takes place. That is why the brazer composition perfection and brazing technology development are important industrial problems.
In present work SHM were wetted by adhesive metal melts. Technology was developed for blade instrument equipped with SHM: mechanical characteristics SHM/brazer were defined; the best brazer composition was chosen for reliable fixing of SHM polycrystals in the instrument body; diamond wheels were made which are able to provide high quality grinding and regrinding of the instrument.
Summary: Cubic boron nitride superhard materials (SHM) take the dominating position in the intensification of cutting processes for hardened steels. SHM is fixed in instrument body, provided it holding up to full wears-out. So, the perfection of brazing filler composition and brazing technology are the actual problems of mechanical engineering.
