Dr. Paul T. Vianco received a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science from the University of Rochester (New York) in 1986. He joined Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1987 and is currently a principle member of the technical staff at the Materials and Process Sciences Center. Paul has been involved in all aspects of soldering technology, including alloy and process development research, as well as the modeling of thermal mechanical fatigue and solid-state intermetallic compound layer growth. Paul is currently chairman of the American Welding Society (AWS) C3 Brazing and Soldering Committee. He is the author of the Soldering Handbook – Third Edition, an AWS publication.
