Copper Brazing of Metallized Ceramics to Kovar for Hermetic Applications

Metallized Alumina (97.6%) was brazed to Kovar® using pure copper for hermetic joint.   Effect of brazing temperature and time were investigated.  In addition, effect of Ni layer thickness was evaluated in terms of joint strength as well as hermeticity.   Microstructure at the brazed joint was investigated with Scanning Electron Microscope with by Scanning Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (SEM/EDS).
