Pull Testing of Ti to Ti Brazed Joint with Pure Gold As the Filler Metal

Gold is a FDA approved biocompatible metal which have been used extensively in the implantable devices for making brazed joints of Ti and other elements. This paper discuss about the mechanical pull testing of Ti to Ti brazed joint using 99.99% pure gold braze filler metal. Micro structural characterization of the fractured surface is also performed as part of failure analysis. Wetting studies of gold on titanium substrate were also performed to determine the nature of wetting tendency of gold towards titanium.
