In the course of failure analysis investigations, the measurement and evaluation of dimensions often play a critical role. The advantages and limitations of various devices and methods will be explained. This will include multiple 3D scanning systems (including laser scanning systems, structured light scanners, and computed tomography), optical measurement techniques, and direct contact methods. This presentation will compare the resolution and capabilities of different techniques for measuring and recording dimensions. A standard test piece will be measured for comparison among the techniques and instruments.
