Aircraft gas turbines are made of a variety of materials ranging from aluminum to steel, with a majority being superalloys that are often coated for environmental protection. Like other industries, corrosion can affect the service life of the components and have large economic consequences. The presentation will cover different types of corrosion seen on gas turbine components depending on the material/service conditions and the metallurgical markers used to identify them, accompanied by relevant examples.
