This presentation will provide an overview of embrittlement mechanisms resulting in intergranular fracture observed in various metals and alloys. This presentation will discuss both embrittlement due to processing, such as the embrittlement caused by grain boundary precipitates and embrittlement mechanisms that involve the exposure of a material to a specific environment, such as hydrogen embrittlement. Case studies and fractographic images will also be discussed in order to identify differences in fracture appearance across multiple embrittlement mechanisms.
