Although being relatively common parts, bolt fractures can result in extensive downstream damage with high replacement costs and, in extreme cases, can have operational consequences. The presentation describes a few of the most common fracture mechanisms observed on gas turbine bolts, such as assembly and disassembly cracks, wear, HCF, SPLCF, LCF, and silver assisted corrosion.
