In this talk we will first review two kinds of mechanisms for nanojoining, thermal and non-thermal mechanisms. Thermal accumulation effects by high repetition femtosecond laser irradiation will be highlighted. We will examine nanojoining of metal nanowire and metal oxide nanowires. Experimental observations on the interface and defect development will be explained with the framework of laser peening effect and thermal induced diffusion at the nanoscale. The potential application for sensing and memristor devices will be discussed.
