Automotive Axle Bearing Damage Investigation

Timken automotive customers have identified instances of bearing wear and detrimental performance impact. Timken quantified the wear and location and investigated potential causes. Through SEM analysis abrasive materials were identified embedded in the bearing functional surfaces. Investigation into possible sources found that gear manufacturing compounds used in axle manufacturing to be the most likely cause.
