By forming bio-inspired nano/micro-scale unique structures on the metal surface for adhesion and joining of composites and metals, emerging concept that fundamentally differs from conventional welding can be expected. Surface-structured ultrasonic welding has a high degree of freedom in designing interfaces containing polymers because of the micromechanical interlocking mechanism. In this talk, the authors will review the latest trend in this field and introduce their achievement of surface structuring for adhesion and welding of multi-materials.
