Remember the look on your child’s face when they finally got the new toy they have been wanting. They turn to you to get the toy out of the plastic packaging. An hour later, after hunting down scissors, cutting your finger on the cut plastic and apologizing many times to your child for the bad words they might have heard coming out of your mouth, the toy is finally out of the packaging. Why do the manufacturers make it so hard to open plastic packaging? Because we, as failure analysis investigators, told them it was necessary. This presentation will discuss how the failure analysis of previous plastic packaging highlighted the inadequacies of protecting children from opening harmful products.
