How many batteries do you have in your “battery drawer” at home? How many different sizes of alkaline batteries do you have? How many cylindrical lithium-ion batteries do you have scattered around your home? If the batteries did not have any labels on them, could you tell them apart? In a battery failure analysis, it is common for the battery wrappers to be removed or burned off. This presentation will discuss methods of characterizing batteries that have been involved in a failure to determine what type they are and possible failure origins.
