Failure Analysis of Dryer Impeller: When Car Washes Attack

This presentation details the failure analysis of multiple car wash dryer impellers. This case study will identify and discuss the effects of porosity on the performance of the cast impellers. A comparison of multiple impellers both failed and intact were examined using radiographic and Computed Tomography (CT) to identify porosity in the cast impellers. Fractographic images will also be discussed to identify differences in fracture appearance across multiple failed samples.
