Novel Bioplastic based Materials for Functional Applications

Sustainability has become important component of materials research. Plastics is one sector where there is an urgent need for developing sustainable solutions which can potentially replace fossil fuel derived materials. Bioplastics have emerged as a potential solution for replacing traditional plastics. These bioplastics suffers from intrinsic problems like brittleness and low glass transition temperature which renders them ineffective as functional materials in many applications. In this presentation, I will present some of the recent developments in my lab in blend design. Detailed analysis of microstructure and mechanical properties will be presented.
