Bearings are key components in gas turbines, however, to ensure proper operation, it is not only important that they be manufactured correctly and operated within their design window, but also that they be properly handled and installed. The investigation covers the metallurgical evaluation of an unusual 1B bearing inner ring fracture and associated findings, including contact/transfer from a foreign material.
