Metallurgical Investigation of a Fractured Turbine Disk.

An aircraft engine was investigated after the fracture of a turbine disk. The investigation initially focused on the turbine disk fracture. However, the pattern of distress suggested the need to expand the investigation into the adjacent turbine hardware. This presentation documents the results of this investigation, including the development of the chain of events within the turbine that ultimately led to the disk fracture.
