Polyethylene natural gas distribution pipe sections recently removed from service were examined and subjected to a series of tests. Despite the age of the pipe, no evidence for significant surface oxidation was found. Other physical properties were found to be essentially as expected at or near the materials expected end of life, demonstrating the remarkable engineering that went into the design of these materials.
