In this talk we will first review two kinds of mechanisms for nanojoining, thermal and non-thermal mechanisms. Thermal accumulation effects by high repetition femtosecond laser irradiation will be highlighted. We will examine recent progresses of nanojoining using nanoparticles, metal nanowire and metal oxide nanowires. Experimental observations on the interface and defect development will be explained with the framework of laser peening effect and thermal induced diffusion at the nanoscale. The potential applications, such as sensing, memristor devices, catalysts, micro robotics and micro additive manufacturing will be discussed.
