Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Materials

Machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) are rapidly advancing across various fields worldwide, including materials science and manufacturing. While these technologies present challenges, they also offer significant benefits in cost reduction, increased speed, and enhanced capabilities for materials and products.

To explore this topic, a panel of experts from academia, engineering societies, government laboratories, and industry will discuss the current state of ML and AI tools in materials science and engineering. The panel will address focused questions to provide insights into:

  1. Current applications and benefits of ML/AI in materials and manufacturing
  2. Future opportunities in this field
  3. Guidance for individuals and organizations looking to adopt these technologies

This session aims to help the materials and manufacturing community better understand the potential of ML and AI and how to begin incorporating these tools into their work.

Panelists:

  • David Furrer – Pratt & Whitney (Panel Moderator)
  • Seth Kimble – ASM International
  • Joshua Stuckner – NASA-GRC
  • James Saal – Citrine Informatics
