Metallurgical Evaluation of a Cracked New-make Gas Turbine Part Associated with a Weld (or maybe not)

A new-make component was submitted for evaluation after cracking was discovered adjacent to a weld following a welding operation. The presentation will show the metallurgical findings and some of the techniques used to arrive at the most likely root cause.
