Experts, pitfalls, and expert pitfalls.

With the advancements in battery technology and the increasing sophistication of fire investigations, metallurgical examinations and retention of metallurgists as experts are becoming increasingly common. As a result, metallurgists are among the growing number of experts to whom courts apply the Daubert standard to admit their opinions. While many of the pitfalls faced by engineers and fire investigators are also present for metallurgists, there are metallurgic-specific pitfalls to be aware of. This presentation provides a refresher on the most common pitfalls and several specific to metallurgists.
