Analysis of Fractured Structural Components from a Train Impact

This work involves fractographic, metallographic, mechanical, and non-destructive analyses of components involved in a train collision with a vehicle abandoned on the tracks. The collision resulted in fracture and complete separation of multiple structural elements. The strength of welded connections became a topic of interest and was investigated in detail, along with accompanying weld qualification and ultrasonic inspection records.
