This presentation discusses the analysis of boiler tubes that had crack-like indications found by visual examination and non-destructive testing during a field inspection. The metallurgical investigation involved visual examination, light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), microstructure evaluation, and hardness testing. The affected boiler frequently cycled between minimum and maximum loads and had evidence of high-temperature oxidation.

This presentation also offers reflections from the perspective of a newcomer to failure analysis, highlighting the importance of documentation for future learning.
