Transferred arc plasma wire atomization has been shown to be capable of producing powder from wire at a lower specific energy than traditional non-transferred plasma wire atomization. In addition to this advantage, the process is agnostic to the material being processed. Feedstock in the form of a wire is directly melted and atomized by a combination of plasma and directed gas. This is a crucible-less operation so reactive and high temperature materials, along with more common materials can be processed with one system. The ease and versatility of the technology surpasses conventional melt atomization technologies.
This presentation will describe the transferred arc plasma wire atomization technology and provide examples of the materials processed by it.
