The cold spray additive manufacturing is a rapid and cost-effective method for depositing metals and alloys that offers several advantages over fusion-based 3D printing processes. While its unprecedented deposition rates and capacity to process Ni-based superalloys without altering their phase or chemical composition make it highly attractive to various industries, a detailed understanding of the associated damage mechanisms is essential to fully realize its potential. To address this, dedicated testing equipment and unique testing methods were developed to characterize the fatigue and fracture-mechanical properties of additively manufactured materials using identical, small-scale sample geometries. Using these tools, the properties of Inconel materials were studied and compared to their conventionally manufactured counterparts.
