This tutorial is based on the Fatigue Failures lesson from ASM International’s popular course “Principles of Failure Analysis”. Fatigue is the most common failure mechanism when components fracture. This presentation will cover the definition of fatigue, the types of fatigue, fatigue fractographic features, fractographic features mistaken for fatigue, fatigue testing, and designing for fatigue, as time permits. Numerous images and case histories of fatigue failures will be described.
